Okay, that makes more sense now, I will look into that, although I do like the small text (most 'wow' sites have small text to preserve space) but thanks for the suggestion...

I will try to make the nav and or header more 'wow' but unless you guys have any bright ideas, then I'll just have to try my hardest (I'm not the most creative web designer)...

I do think I'm going to have a hard time with the main page, trying to fill up space... I want it to display just new featured items which include (interviews, matches, brushes, tutorials, etc). It would say something like; featured match then have a thumbnail of a volley from the match then have some info about the match and link to the full match...

Need some help on the layout for a main page (not really the content)...

ok as if it wasnt hard enough sorting a layout, I decided to see what the content could look like.

This would be the view if you had allready clicked for the battle pics, and seen one you liked (not being big headed, Its just easier for me if its my details etc) and clicked the pic for more info (personal info or whatever)

Ive also moved the nav over and changed some things.

Nice, I like that layout, though some of that information will be easy to get, when I display other battles from other forums/places, it will be much harder to get all that info... I like it though, thanks, I will work on this step next...

But I think everyone likes those arrows, I'll have to throw those back on... Plus I'll just have to make sure TS7 can code an XML layout like that...

nooooo the arrows are too big and dont fit with the style...

i think the "dash" to the right of the words is a lot more effective for mouseovers plus its css so again, load times :X

I do like that font you used at the bottom of the page for pstennis.net. What font did you use?

I'll have to see about switching the arrows with another object then, but I think everyone likes the whole you are here part (b/c if the text is going to be that small then they need that) :D

i also forgot that in the "related media" etc etc should be interviews, brushes, wallpapers that kinda crap.

It all needs to be thought out before work is started, codewise anyway

save ts7 a lot of trouble that way

Well, I will take that layout for the Sub-Matches page (after someone click on a match from the Matches page) and try to use a layout like this...

Codewise it might have to be a little less compliacated but hopefully it will keep some of that 'wow' while having the 'functional' part too...

if you now anyone that could help with the nav in flash i would suggest doing something where when you click on a link in the nav you get a box like below
Image
where the line runs down, forms the box and then the writing appears
would bring a bit more wow to the site

Well standard nowadays is 1024x768 and if people can't afford better monitors its their own damn fault :P, just stick summit on a splash page (if theres one) saying best viewed in 1024x768. I like the arrows and coming on good, agree with skate about the battles page needing a little summit else...

splash pages are a thing of the past.

Im guessing that 90% or so of the people looking at the site will be either designers, or interested in design and will be using 1024*768 or above.

I think 800*600 is still the most used res, if it isnt, there are still a HUGE number of people using it.

But perhaps not this target audience. Perhaps riddla/ts7/grumpy/buu will have more relevant data?

contour, i could easily do that in flash, but to keep load times at a minimum, i think we should stay away from flash.

that layout looks nice br3n. like emo said, it will be hard to get some of that info for a few of the people involved in photoshop battles. i guess we could just put as much info as we know or can get from that person, and not have it limited to only those fields.

Yeh i was just thinking you may as well put as much information as possible...

you could have it so you can view info on only some designers (ones with profiles and backgrounds) and the others are just links to their sites or something..

dunno :/

There is one thing that I'm having trouble seeing with that sub page, and that's the whole battle. I mean, you can really only fit about 3-4 of those volleys per page. I kind of want you to be able to see the whole battle (sort of side by side) or something to that effect.

It would kind suck to have to click through 5 pages to see the whole battle if you know what I mean...

With the sub-page the way it is now, it seems like the main focus is the volley, where it should probably be the whole battle it self.

But I will probably just move them up and get rid of some of that related media space...

UPDATE
Beta 2.2 (Matches page)

I think I will keep the Matches page w/ that layout, I like it, it works for the most part, so it will remain at what Beta 2.2 (Matches Page) looks like now.

I will start on the Sub-Match page (which includes all the volleys from the match)...

I can get a blank template of the layout (just the nav and colors of the site) in a .psd if anyone is interested in helping me with a general layout of a main page for the site...

Yeah, I think for the most part it will work, it will end up being a little different for horizontal images, rather than vertical like in that photo... But the rest of the images could be in an iframe...
