since the guys at AI make a decent amount of tuts why not produce them into a page like a tutorial page and people can only view if there a member which may attract some people :D

I thought about making guests not able to even view any threads. Currently, they just can't post but they can view threads.

What do you guys think?

they do that at LO, seams pretty pointless to me. No ones going to join if they dont know what theyre joining, and its not like theyre all secrets...

Should be showcasing the talent/knowledge on this board - use it as insentive to come back.

Good point br3n.

The only advantage it may have, it may increase member registeration because they must register to see the information.

However, if they can't see the info, maybe they won't register.

What does everyone else think?

I see a lot of guests pop in over the day and a lot of them are using the stock.

Maybe it would be an idea to make the stock registation only?

i agree with br3n. leave viewing topics open to guests, but just keep them from posting. if they cant see any topics they'll have no reason to want to join.

The entire Album (designs/stock photos) pages are restricting guests to only see the thumbnail. Basically, if they click to view a full-sized Stock Photo or Design, it will prompt them to log on. So they can only preview the small thumbnails.

So it sounds like just keep it how it is now with the guests, just leave it so they can't post but so they can still see each post.

i think we did understand you, we just all dismissed it so quickly it wasnt worth mentioning, however because the world IS out to get you. theres nothing you can do and we all decided to change the subject slightly and time it to see how long it takes you to notice.

Congratulations....

Foiled again :(

Sod it, make everything restricted

I'm not the position to say anyhting but tutorial pages will make AI seem like any other design site---look as if it has been constructed by itty bitty kids.

Honestly this site rocks as it is. What happened to learning the hard way. Do you really want people to design the same way you do?

I'm keeping my packet of "UNIQUE" to myself

Haha, that's a tough choice.

If you make everything restricted, it creates the need for more people to register on the forums. But since guests can't see topics, neither can spiders to index your site for search engines.

However, if you make all topics viewable by guests, it allows spiders to index your site/forum so it shows up in search engines more.

Up until just recently, I had everything restricted and you needed to log in to see posts. Now, if you aren't sign in, everything is in HTML and very light weight. It's all about SEO.

P.S. Welcome to AI verbal. :ai:

topics open for searching and looking, everything else closed to guests..then you get the best of both choices i guess? (You lure them with the things they can see, and they will register to get tio posting and the rest of AI) :)

If your forum is hidden it doesn't stop spiders from seeing your site and indexing it, they find ways, But it will still access your meta info from the index page and anywhere else u have it. My forum is totally closed and hidden into nearly into non existance but we still get loads of members coming in, currently its invite only. Spiders still managed to index the site even tho i added scripts to stop them (think they stopped now dunno we still on google). As for hiding the site it has its pro's and cons. Maybe you can hide certains parts and leave certain parts open, e.g. show news and give em tasters to other sections while hiding some others. It is true tho to build your community you do need members, cus if people aren't posting and giving input are they really part of the community?

Yes. And there were other things I did to improve SEO, such as session IDs were removed for guests and a lot of graphics and stuff were removed such as footers and avatars.

Maybe give the Guest a little taste, not too much. Then if they like what they see, get them to register..

Kinda like it is now isn't it :shocks:

As for tutorial pages.... There are plenty of other sites that provide that stuff. How could AI showcase tuts differently? I don't think you can.

Slab on the link and then slab on the steps-there it is, different! ha ha

Hopefully, AI doesn't go down the same path! HOLDING A QUIET PROTEST!

Nah, pretty much if you have anything to help others with something, post a tutorial on it.

The internet is a big place, I'm sure you could find anything on it, so sometimes it's tough to look all around for something. I guess it wouldn't make sense to post a tutorial over something really common that you could find any where else though.

I know what you mean though, we try to keep AI unique as possible. :)
